We are definitely excited to see some more products roll out from Cowon as the other brands have been rolling out and announcing their players for the holidays. The Cowon iAudio 9, or more commonly referred to as the Cowon i9, is the successor to the Cowon i6 and the flash version of the i6 , the i7 . I believe that the number 8 was skipped due to an eastern superstition. So we move right along to the new Cowon i9. Not everything is known about this player, but from the splash page on Cowon’s Korean site the player has all the great features of the Cowon family like killer support for all kinds of audio codecs and it looks like it is adding some nice support for video files too: AVI, WMV, XViD, and ASF. It also states that it supports TV-Out, which could possibly mean video playback without conversion. Additionally, it will add a built-in speaker in a tiny package (42mm x 95mm x 8.9 mm). This could make a lot of Cowon fans happy for a more compact version of the S9 they have been carrying around. [ Cowon via Journal du Geek ]

The youth of today ranging from the age 13-29 have been brought up in an instant gratification way . When they want an item, they want it right then and whether or not they have the means to purchase it they can still get it by charging it on a credit card. If something get broken such as their ipod or phone they toss it and purchase another one instead of going to an ipod repair or iphone repair business to have it repaired . With the current troubled economy, this younger generation is now having to learn the lessons from their grandparents or great-grandparents who valued the dollar and took care of the items theypurchased without going into debt to buy more things .
One of the first lessons the younger person is now having to learn from those that survived through a depression already is to only purchase what you have money for at the moment. This has been a difficult one to teach many kids who have always had charge cards and do not see anything wrong with keeping a balance on that card at all times . When they can no longer pay that debt because they lost their employment is when they have to learn the difficult way. The younger younger kids today have to learn to purchase items that they only need versus what they want. They also must repress that need to be instantly gratified and have the patience to work for something that they would really like to have .
Another lesson that is now being taught to the youthful people from the older ones is how to take care of your possessions and that things are not meant to be thrown away if they are no longer the latest gadget or is broken. With technology being a continually changing world, a lot of teenagers now constantly are in search of having the latest cell phone or the most recent type of video game. These technologies are known to change as frequently as every 6 months so to keep up with it, would be incredibly expensive . With the recession going on , they are now realizing this is not possible .
The older relatives are also teaching them ways to value the things you already have and to take care of your possessions by maintaining them or getting them fixed if they break. An iphone, for example ranges from $2200-$300 and if it breaks, it is certainly valuable enough to pay for the service to have it fixed instead of purchasing a new one. This is actually unchartered territory for the younger generation .
Another lesson learned for the younger kids during the recession is to be content owning less. In the 90′s people overextended themselves and believed the more things they had, the happier they were. Now they are trying to live a more simple life and that it is more simple and often less stressful to live in a world with less tangible items .

FedEx is starting to drop off the long awaited ( read: delayed ) customized Zune Originals direct from Microsoft’s factories in China. Those who ordered a Zune Original as an express order got a little treat for their patience in putting up with the delay- $15 credit to be spent in the Zune Marketplace. Below are a few photos of what is inside the box (you’re welcome for not boring you with an 8 min video of watching me take stuff out of a box, unboxing videos are the gadget world’s equivalent to Ambien). There is not much different from the regular store bought version other than a different design on the box and of course the custom color and etched back design. I chose not to get a design and just wanted a blue 32GB Zune. The blue and I imagine the other colors to be of the same tone colors, is an understated modern pastel. It is an attractive and not obnoxious color tone fitting in well with the entire Zune design scheme.
