Kensington has detailed its upcoming Nightstand Charging Dock for Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch, which includes an application available to download for free via the App Store . The Rise & Shine Clock & Weather application will turn the iPhone or iPod touch into a bedside clock and provide users with weather information. Throughout the night, the screen will not turn off, staying on all night just as a regular clock would. It could be set to dim, however. Through the app, users can select from one of three views for the clock display. The dock and application are available for pre-order via Kensington’s website now, priced at $40, though its release date hasn’t been specified. EMC’s security division, RSA, has launched the RSA SecurID Software Token for iPhone, enabling an Apple handheld to be used as a SecurID authenticator. It works in conjunction with a SecurID token seed — and RSA’s?Authentication Manager software — to provide a one-time password that changes every 60 seconds, creating a secure access point. A single tap enables the program, using a unique token seed provided by a person’s IT organization. Transporting the authenticator on an iPhone provides an easier access point for enterprise users, who can be away from their desks and still access secure software. SecurID tokens can be revoked and automatically redeployed if an iPhone is lost, eliminating the need for replacement tokens. The SecurID Software Token app is available at no charge from the App Store, but the required SecurID token seed must be bought from RSA. An organization must also have Authentication Manager installed.
