Pioneer announced four new double-DIN in-car navigation and entertainment systems over the weekend, including the flagship AVIC-Z110BT which sports a 7-inch touchscreen with 1024×768 resolution that tilts out to reveal the optical drive slot. Behind that screen is 4GB of internal storage space, an optical drive capable of reading CDs and DVDs and Bluetooth functionality. There is also an optional MSN Direct tuner that gets traffic, weather and other information, though this service requires a subscription. The flagship model will also recognize voice commands when navigating, read out street names and control connected iPods. It has rear zone support as well, for screens and wireless headphones. A USB port and SD memory card slot let users play files from a wide variety of external flash storage devices. The preloaded map data covers the US, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada and more than 12 million points of interest. The mid-range AVIC-X710BT and AVIC-X910BT have a smaller, 5.8-inch, 800×480 resolution touchscreen display and the same mapping data for the navigation function, though less interactive features. An MSN Direct tuner is integrated into the X910BT and cannot be had on the X710BT, and there is DVD support, a USB port and SD memory card. Voice recognition is also built-in and, together with Bluetooth cellphone pairing and iPod support, can be used to control the portable devices. The 4.3-inch, 400×240 touchscreen-equipped AVIC-U310BT fills in at the bottom of the range, and contains 2GB of internal memory. It is iPhone and iPod compatible and has Bluetooth support. The mapping data is less comprehensive, at about 500,000 points of interest, though voice recognition and text-to-speech capabilities of the costlier new units are retained. An SD card slot lets users update the POI list to more than 12 million, or play back audio files. The U310BT is due out in July, priced at $599. The AVIC-X710BT and AVIC-X910BT are available now, and are priced at $900 and $1,100, respectively. The flagship AVIC-Z110BT is priced at $1,600.
