Apple has published updates for two of its main media playback utilities, iTunes and QuickTime. The most crucial is iTunes 8.2 , which introduces support for the yet-to-be-released iPhone 3.0 firmware; the upgrade may signify an iPhone 3.0 debut on or around Apple’s imminent WWDC event, scheduled to begin June 8th. Also addressed in the download are unspecified bugfixes and accessibility improvements. QuickTime 7.6.2 enhances compatibility with Apple’s ProRes video format, and is also necessary for full compatibility with iTunes 8.2. Several security vulnerabilities are addressed for Mac OS X 10.4.11 and 10.5.7 systems, as well as those with Windows Vista or XP Service Pack 3. QuickTime is a 60.3MB download from Apple, while iTunes measures in at 79.3MB. Separately released is the GarageBand 5.0.2 patch, which provides access to installed Jam Packs in the loop browser, along with a a better experience in the Lesson Store. Some glitches and instabilities have meanwhile been eliminated. The complete upgrade, available through Software Update, is sized at 108MB.
