Apple Stores to sell updated TuneUp iTunes plugin
TuneUp Media has updated its iTunes add-on , and has announced that Apple will sell the plug-in online and at its retail stores. The TuneUp interface has been updated to closely resemble iTunes, and new features have been added. The software takes an “audio fingerprint” of songs to help users identify and organize tracks, find album art, and locate information about artists and concerts. TuneUp Media says it has over 200,000 registered users around the world, and the plug-in is the most-downloaded iTunes-related software from Download.com. Apple’s retail outlets and online store will carry a packaged version of the software, which has previously been available online for either a yearly or “lifetime” subscription fee. New features include the ability to disable “greatest hits” compilations as an option for organizing songs — so the tracks can instead be matched to their original albums. Mac users can now create playlists of all albums “cleaned” by TuneUp software. Another new feature allows users to choose which metadata the software saves by default — which can be useful when creating music mixes. TuneUp requires an Intel Mac running OS X 10.4 or higher, and also works with Windows XP SP2 or Vista. The new retail version is now available from Apple for $30, the same price as the lifetime subscription directly from TuneUp. One-year subscriptions are also available online for $20.
